Chapter 7a

Assessing students learning always raises a red flag in my opinion because teachers get criticized for the way they grade. The policy at district 150 in Peoria IL is that if the student does their work the lowest grade they can receive is a 50%. When making this change I remember there was a lot of concerns and speculations. When a teacher is assessing a student I believe it is very important that they follow the book by assessing them in the three criteria: What the student says, does, and writes.

  1. Nebeha, thank you for your response! I wasn't aware that district 150's policy was set up this way. That is very interesting. Is this the case for late work as well? I would think that this policy would not motivate the students to do well on their homework, but I can see how it would encourage the students to at least turn in something. I agree with you that it is important to look at the quality of the work rather than the quantity.
